Welcome to the HIStory3: Trapped 圈套 Community on Dreamwidth
Even the though the fandom is spread around on various social media platforms, I think there are enough people on Dreamwidth who have seen the show to merit a separate community to celebrate our favorite disaster gangsters and their disaster cop boyfriends.
This is a comm for discussing and sharing the love of Trapped 圈套 and its related content, including:
• All types of discussion, discourse, and squee
• Actor news and spam (RPS and speculation is acceptable)
• Fan works (fanfiction, podfic, art, icons, vids, etc.), including your own work, challenges, recs and fanwork finding, beta requests
• Episode recaps
You are encouraged to post content directly to the community so that discussion can happen in one central place.
The Community Guidelines can be found on the profile page.

I watched it on Viki sometime around July 2019, at the insistence of
My favorite scene in Trapped
It's a tie between Meng Shao Fei tripping over a tree trunk and falling into Tang Yi's arms (which was telegraphed way in advance, shown in slow motion, and replayed from three different angles), and Zhao Zi falling off the ladder into Jack's arms and into the swimming pool.
I don't think I'd howled as loudly with laughter and delight since Yuri!!! on Ice had aired in 2016.
I like Trapped because
It is absolutely unabashed about what it is. It's a trope bingo blackout that delivers on the relationships you came here for. It features larger-than-life disaster adults in silly situations, and they get their happy endings, with just enough left up to the imagination that there's plenty of sandbox space to play around in for fanfiction.
Oh, and Andy Bian and Kenny Chen are great kissers too. That helps.

Date: 2 Jan 2020 15:01 (UTC)I was perusing Tumblr in April of 2019 around the time when I think episodes 3 & 4 (episode 2 on Viki now) had just dropped and the fansubs had gone up. A person I follow on Tumblr for another series linked to Florbexter's master post with the fansubs from Adam Uni uploaded to their G drive, plus, HD unsubbed episodes for download. I liked the premise, I looked at some gifs also on Tumblr from stebeee and other users, I followed Adam Uni on Facebook and watched and I was hooked. One of the few webdramas I have actually watched while it was airing in progress, and I really loved being back in a space where fans were screaming at each other in real time for weeks as episodes aired. There's a lot to be said for being able to binge a show all in one go but that sense of togetherness gets lost when you don't have 3-4 days each week when we're all stalking each other online looking for clips and spoilers and translations and just being able to shriek at each other about what the heck just happened. I made my first true squee post about it on April 26th here. I tried very hard to bring people into the fandom but everyone in my circle was still all about Guardian or not into Asian webdramas at all, so it was VERY LONELY FOR A LONG TIME. Then at the end of the series run the production company swept down all the fansites, the fansubs were lost, Adam Uni kept getting reported and taken down as fast as anyone could put the subs up, because it was going on Viki, so .... it's much easier to find and more accessible, now, thanks to Viki, and thanks to the episodes being restored to their full selves and not chopped weirdly into two uneven pieces each week - but I still have all those original fansubs in G drive if anyone wants to download them for posterity.
My favorite scene in Trapped
Aha! I answered this in the past! There are two, and they're both Tang Yi & Shao Fei (sorry Jack/ZZ - but I love your scene on the stairs in ep 19 / ep 10 ... it is a very close 3rd; the ominousness of Jack's shadow following ZZ up the stairs at night, and we all still weren't 100% sure Jack wasn't going to turn out to have been feral all along, and something terrible might be about to happen to ZZ .... whew. It was a big relief).
Scene 1:
"There will be other scenes in #HIStory3 that will get all the attention but honestly, for me, this is the perfect one. The comfort, the caretaking, the sweetness, the softness, the everything. This is intimacy. This is connection. This is love. https://t.co/hXm4k0yMg4"
—May 14, 2019
Scene 2:
The first love scene between Tang Yi and Shao Fei when they've gone back to Shao Fei's home after the hospital. The chemistry between Jake and Chris is soft, tender and believable and I love how much they respected what these two characters were about to go through, and how to bring out the connection, and the TRUST.
SF’s in-the-chair seduction of TY is all about connecting: hands are touching but eyes are open, they keep eye contact, their intimacy in this moment is powerful, gentle, and direct. TY invites SF to seduce him as a test: to see how far SF is willing to go, but also as a way to judge his experience level and his tastes. TY then pushes SF a little more. When they're out of the chair, Tang Yi does not have Shao Fei trapped against a wall. Shao Fei has room to back off if he wants to. Tang Yi brings him in, holds him up, holds onto him, but never presses him back, gives him the option of space if he needs to take it. But Shao Fei doesn’t take it. He leans in, and he listens, he lets himself be touched and treasured, and he trusts Tang Yi. Tang Yi pulls him in, increases the skin to skin surface area by removing the shirt, takes away the eye contact but by doing so invites SF to learn how much you can *feel* when you come in closer and close your eyes and listen, and touch, and touch again.
I love the dichotomy and range of physicality, connection and emotion they go through in just 5 minutes, seizing the moment, being present and trusting. How many times am I going to use the word trust? A LOT. Because the only way the two of them could have survived being together - literally, I mean actually survive, since they were both targets in one way or another - was to see and to feel and to trust each other, whether their eyes are open or their eyes are closed. Yes the kissing is hot. The actors are hot, all the skin is hot. But the connection is the thing that kept them both alive.
I like Trapped because
There's not enough room in this comment box to say, so: Shao Fei and Tang Yi are two sides of the same coin who are just trying their best.

That scene was so, so sweet. I was actually surprised that how intimate and soft that scene was.
...and how Zhao Zi totally slept through it.
The first love scene between Tang Yi and Shao Fei when they've gone back to Shao Fei's home after the hospital.
That was scene was amazing! I swear I felt some tingling down my spine when Tang Yi bent to kiss the bandaged bullet wound.
I think you're onto something about the TRUST, which was something that the director really wanted to bring out. It is special, it's the first time that both Tang Yi and Shao Fei are letting themselves be vulnerable with each other present, in the moment. It was very, very nice.
...even up the point where Shao Fei escapes, because it's a little too much for him. XD
There are so many powerful, emotional scenes between those two.
I remember finishing Trapped and thinking to myself, "Good thing that TangFei are my main OTP!" ...and then a few weeks later, having written the first of the Househusband fics, I went, "Oh no, I was so wrong about myself."

In March 2019 I saw some Guardian people on tumblr talking about this upcoming BL drama. I posted then on my dreamwidth that I’m kinda interested. Two weeks later after the 3rd 6 minutes long trailer aired, I was basically already in love. :) And the drama absolutely fulfilled my expectations.
My favorite scene in Trapped
Well, no contest here: Jack/Zhao Zi scene on the stairs in episode 19 – everything about this scene is perfect for me: the way Jack looks at Zhao Zi with such longing, the way Zhao Zi says “Don’t go” through tears, and then of course the most beautiful kiss.
But I also really love Tang Yi and Shao Fei’s first kiss. Let me quote my own post about it: “Tang Yi is all ‘I’m being noble and self-sacrificing here, I must leave you for your own good’, and Shao Fei is like ‘nope, gonna kiss you right now.’ Tang Yi’s face is priceless after the kiss, all blink, blink, blink ‘I’m sorry, I stopped working, I have to reboot right now.”
I like Trapped because
It’s iddy and fun in all the right ways. It has beautiful and interesting characters and two fascinating romances. And I was surprised how much I liked a lot of secondary characters, too: Hong Ye, Dao Yi, Tang Guo Dong, Jun Wei, Andy, Doctor Tang

The look on Jack's face in this scene is so cute, the relief and delight he has when Zhao Zi finally reciprocates his feelings, and then the kiss
where Kenny used tongue, and you can see it if you zoom in, and then Jack looking so happy when he and Zhao Zi snuggle for a bit <3 <3 <3 I love this scene.Stebee on Tumblr has posted a little excerpt from the Diary Logbook when they filmed that scene on the 17th day (it was the first of all the Jack/Zhao Zi scenes they filmed!)
And I was surprised how much I liked a lot of secondary characters
Same! One of my favorite things was that Tang Yi clearly has a gay posse between Jiang Jin Tang, his boyfriend, Andy and his boyfriend...I want pre-canon fic of Tang Yi's Gay Gangsta Posse so, so bad!
Maybe I should start a plot bunny farm post...

Although I’ve never really felt a need to delve into the fanfic side of things until Trapped, I’ve been really into T dramas for a few years now, & stumbled across the HIStory series while I was browsing around for the next show to watch! I promptly devoured the first two seasons on youtube, and when I couldn’t find season three there I was excited enough about the show’s concept to look for it elsewhere! I was not expecting the adorableness that is Jack and Zhao Zi, but here we are!
My favorite scene in Trapped
Predictably, I love all of the scenes which involve Jack cooking for Zhao Zi :D The suit fitting bit is also up there, though!
I like Trapped because
Trapped is a wonderfully soft, beautifully tropey romance wrapped up in a police procedural, which is basically my catnip. (Now that I’ve written that sentence, I have an inkling that clevermanka may have talked about it some point also? If so: I’m sorry I didn’t watch this sooner!) I knew going in that the detective/reforming criminal romance between Shao Fei and Tang Yi would be my speed, but I was caught off guard by how much I enjoyed the side characters and their arcs as well!

My favorite scene in Trapped
I'm only 15 minutes into a rewatch so I am going to have to come back on another occasion with more thoughts but I think... Jack and Zhao Zi's kitchen scene? That conversation about how they're going to share the housework is so sweet, and then the making out (with Zhao Zi getting confident enough to get a little pushy - he's starting to know what he likes) is UNF.
Also, from the first ep I am currently flailing about THIS
I like Trapped because
It's just so funny and warm and sweet. And after watching a couple of mainland Chinese dramas based on BL novels, it was pretty emotional for me to watch this drama where the romance can be a *romance* and queer characters get a happy ending. (Erm, obviously this is not meant to be a dig at Guardian, which continues to be my constant obsession :D)

I have no idea. Um...all of them? GUESS I NEED TO WATCH IT AGAIN TO FIGURE THIS OUT.
I can say, though, it was such a relief to not hate the het ship. I liked how Zuo Hong Ye was written and acted and I thought Dao Yi's fraught state over their relationship was very believable.

I dunno, she is quite the disease vector. Perhaps she will accept the word "credit" as a substitute for "blame"?
I liked how Zuo Hong Ye was written and acted and I thought Dao Yi's fraught state over their relationship was very believable.
I was on the fence about Hong Ye for a long time while watching it, but by the end, I really, really liked her. Dao Yi's reservations about their relationship are 110% LEGIT.
Her protective love for Tang Yi is really sweet, and I adore how frustrated she got when she found Jack and Zhao Zi frolicking in the pool.
The only thing I still haven't quite figured out is...Hong Ye was in cahoots with Ah-De during the early part of Shao Fei's stay as Tang Yi's bodyguard, and she wanted Ah-De to send some thugs to beat Shao Fei up during their shopping trip, but then Ah-De involved what's-his-face (Han Hao? Something like that?), and he was the one who decided go with the shooting of Shao Fei? I was always slightly confused by how that went down...

Date: 3 Jan 2020 02:23 (UTC)How I came to watch Trapped
I was looking for something relatively lighthearted and enjoyable to watch - also preferably not too long, as I’m terrible at pacing myself! - to get me through a miserable day, and I remembered seeing a couple of mentions of this floating around on Twitter from people whose opinions I trust.
My favorite scene in Trapped
I’ve only watched the show through once so far (quickly - see my earlier comment on having no self-control!) and the scene that currents stands out for me is when Meng Shaofei holds Tang Yi as he’s breaking down and flailing in distress after learning the truth about his parentage. This is MSF’s superpower: giving love and comfort to a difficult person in difficult circumstances. And I have a bit of a thing for this sort of scene (as witnessed by my appreciation of a very similar moment in Shadowhunters). Although there are many other things about MSF that are fabulous, such as his ridiculously sunny disposition or his braveness despite his inexperience, I choose this moment and this aspect of his character. Perhaps my second favourite scene is in the lift. Well, actually, MSF being all competent and badass to get himself into the lift beforehand then being out-badassed by TY once in the lift and ending up handcuffed to the rail. There are many other elements in this scene (the power play back and forth, for instance) but it’s the combination of badassery I’m going for now.
I like Trapped because
It’s so much fun! We all know it’s silly and can’t be taken seriously, but within those bounds it does what it does with aplomb. I’m a sucker for a romance against the odds story. Add in the fantabulous Jack, many hilarious moments, and ALL THE TROPES. Well, what’s not to love?

This is so incredibly true. That scene was very touching and very intense, I really like that there was a scene like that in the show. The way that he held onto Tang Yi and didn't let go really shows how deeply Shao Fei is able to emphathize with Tang Yi's pain.
The lift scene is also amazing, because of how quickly the turnabout was executed, and how the tension felt by the audience was then dissipated by the comedy. Particularly Shao Fei hauling the rail all the way back to the precinct.

i'm pretty sure
(of course, there were cliffhangers and the drama accelerated in the final few episodes, but i had faith and plenty of people to spoil me if things went south/warn me about content, so it all turned out okay.)
My favorite scene in Trapped
this is kind of impossible to answer because "enemies to lovers" is my all-time number one trope, and the show consists of not one but TWO couples who fit this category, so - all of that is my favorite?!?! hmmmmmmm. okay: i love, love, LOVE the birthday scene with MSF and TY which starts out emo angsty, then turns super sweet, then silly, and then sexy - because what a beautiful range, and look how far they've come together! also, the scene with jack and ZZ in the kitchen when jack says he's come to stay if ZZ wants him, and they end up making out on the... island? table? clearly i need to rewatch MORE CAREFULLY. but i love it when a cool and aloof character lays their cards out in such a vulnerable way.
I like Trapped because
see above re: tropes! plus i really like the emphasis on resolving emotional conflicts while building a relationship. there's plenty of chemistry and hotness and mutual attraction, but the team behind this show has done such a lovely job of telling the story that the key component - the trust they end up having in each other - feels truly earned.

It totally does, doesn't it? The budget wasn't great, but they made it work for what they had. There were actual locations and stuff, and the costumes were decent...except for the bits where I was confused why Tang Yi was wearing a turtle neck underneath his button-down shirt. (WHY?)
Also, the plot left something to be desired, but let's be real, we weren't watching for that. XD
"enemies to lovers" is my all-time number one trope,
One of my favorite things about Trapped is that it's clear that Shao Fei and Tang Yi have been enemies for a loooooong time. The whole Shao Fei being sued and having pursued Tang Yi for four years thing? LOVE IT. I am always dying for pre-canon fanfic of the two of them, I can just imagine them butting heads and it is so delightful knowing what follows later.
and the show consists of not one but TWO couples who fit this category
One of the things I am curious about is how much Jack and Zhao Zi knew of each other prior to the first episode. We know that Jack is relatively new to Xin Tian Meng (he's only been there a year), but Zhao Zi already seems to know of him (I'm sure Shao Fei has been spying on the syndicate and keeps a file, and Zhao Zi has picked it up from his rantings and ravings) by the time Interpol haul him away...hrrrmm.
The birthday cake thing is so sweet, and covers such a huge range of emotion. I love that Shao Fei baked him the cake himself. It's also the first kiss that Jake and Chris filmed together, which somehow makes it extra cute.
but i love it when a cool and aloof character lays their cards out in such a vulnerable way.
I'm gonna try not to wax eloquent about Jack for hours here, but one of the things I love most about his character is actually how emotionally vulnerable he is willing to be with Zhao Zi. From the very first moment that he goes, "You like me, don't you?" and ZZ's response is to literally run away. And Jack keeps going back, and even says that if ZZ rejects him his heart will break.
I LOVE dangerous characters being SOFT. Gyaaaaah.

I was vaguely aware of the HIStory series since 2018, and finally got round to watching both the HIStory2 series, and from there found that there was a HIStory3 series in the works. The trailer was adorable so I started following when it began airing.
My favourite scene in Trapped
Oh where to start.
The lift scene, for the excellent back and forth dynamic between MSF and TY. But the scene that really got me was the one in hospital, with TY's late night visit. I get emotional no matter how many times I see that scene. The two of them having an understanding just through a simple interaction... I could see forever for them in that.
For Jack and ZZ, it would have to be Jack's first visit to ZZ's home, where he examines the possessions left behind by ZZ's grandma: it's like some knowledge slotting into place for him, that this is ZZ, who openly defied him but is like the boy next door. And that look Jack gives to Jun Wei when he goes to pick up ZZ (outside the police station): that look of hey, take your arm off from my ZZ''s shoulders. And Jun Wei is all, okaaay, he's yours.
Why I like Trapped
They're... adults? No, seriously, the previous HIStory series mostly involved high school students, and I enjoyed the change in setup when it came to Trapped. That and the unabashedly tropey relationship shenanigans between the pairings.

Date: 18 Jan 2020 08:05 (UTC)I just love them scene between Jack and Zhao Zi where he's looking at all Zhao Zi's grandma's possession's so much. And I love it when he says that ZZ's grandma was very wise, it's such a warm moment. And because it's all happening in Zhao Zi's house it's all the more intimate - and sets everything up so well for Jack to turn up bag and baggage and offer his heart to ZZ later on.
