Welcome to the HIStory3: Trapped 圈套 Community on Dreamwidth

Even the though the fandom is spread around on various social media platforms, I think there are enough people on Dreamwidth who have seen the show to merit a separate community to celebrate our favorite disaster gangsters and their disaster cop boyfriends.

This is a comm for discussing and sharing the love of Trapped 圈套 and its related content, including:
• All types of discussion, discourse, and squee
• Actor news and spam (RPS and speculation is acceptable)
• Fan works (fanfiction, podfic, art, icons, vids, etc.), including your own work, challenges, recs and fanwork finding, beta requests
• Episode recaps

You are encouraged to post content directly to the community so that discussion can happen in one central place.

The Community Guidelines can be found on the profile page.

To start things off, let's introduce ourselves, tell each other how we came into the fandom, and what our favorite things about Trapped 圈套 are.

I’d like to think and talk further about Hong Ye. I’m not super happy with her character after this first speedy watching. But this may be part of something bigger. I like M/M stories for many reasons but one is that (when well done), they appear to be less susceptible to the unpleasant power imbalances that I really don’t like but see so often in typically portrayed M/F stories within a patriarchal society. But women side characters aren’t always treated well. Hong Ye to me came across as shrill and irrational and over emotional. She embodied too many female stereotypes. I’m hoping a rewatch will help me find more and better depth.

Hong Ye to me always read as a bundle of anxiety wrapped in a shell of projected self-confidence and strength, hiding behind the illusion of being completely competent and in control at all times, which - if she was a tiny girl child living homeless on the street and then picked up and taken into a gang family with literally not a single other female character in sight, strong, nurturing, healthy, unhealthy, or otherwise - one could see how that might develop. She's educated and smart enough to be running the business with efficiency but also ruthless enough (survival mechanism? maybe? literally?) to try to protect Tang Yi from what she sees as a threat but making bad choices about how to do that. I look forward to the eventual Hong Ye character discussion post and thread :D

Now that all makes a lot of sense. I’m wading in on scant first impressions here. I should keep a bit quiet until I’ve gathered my thoughts and watched again. That said, I do find that it’s in discussion with others that I form my best opinions! Thank you.

Sounds like I, as the leading Hong Ye stan here*, definitely need to make a post about her. =D I'll do that next week!

*ETA: perhaps tied with Boni, based on the comment I just read above <3
