Welcome to the HIStory3: Trapped 圈套 Community on Dreamwidth

Even the though the fandom is spread around on various social media platforms, I think there are enough people on Dreamwidth who have seen the show to merit a separate community to celebrate our favorite disaster gangsters and their disaster cop boyfriends.

This is a comm for discussing and sharing the love of Trapped 圈套 and its related content, including:
• All types of discussion, discourse, and squee
• Actor news and spam (RPS and speculation is acceptable)
• Fan works (fanfiction, podfic, art, icons, vids, etc.), including your own work, challenges, recs and fanwork finding, beta requests

To start things off, let's introduce ourselves, tell each other how we came into the fandom, and what our favorite things about Trapped 圈套 are.

Hello and thank you for setting this up! I’m new to Dreamwidth so I hope I don’t screw up my first comment.

How I came to watch Trapped
I was looking for something relatively lighthearted and enjoyable to watch - also preferably not too long, as I’m terrible at pacing myself! - to get me through a miserable day, and I remembered seeing a couple of mentions of this floating around on Twitter from people whose opinions I trust.

My favorite scene in Trapped
I’ve only watched the show through once so far (quickly - see my earlier comment on having no self-control!) and the scene that currents stands out for me is when Meng Shaofei holds Tang Yi as he’s breaking down and flailing in distress after learning the truth about his parentage. This is MSF’s superpower: giving love and comfort to a difficult person in difficult circumstances. And I have a bit of a thing for this sort of scene (as witnessed by my appreciation of a very similar moment in Shadowhunters). Although there are many other things about MSF that are fabulous, such as his ridiculously sunny disposition or his braveness despite his inexperience, I choose this moment and this aspect of his character. Perhaps my second favourite scene is in the lift. Well, actually, MSF being all competent and badass to get himself into the lift beforehand then being out-badassed by TY once in the lift and ending up handcuffed to the rail. There are many other elements in this scene (the power play back and forth, for instance) but it’s the combination of badassery I’m going for now.

I like Trapped because
It’s so much fun! We all know it’s silly and can’t be taken seriously, but within those bounds it does what it does with aplomb. I’m a sucker for a romance against the odds story. Add in the fantabulous Jack, many hilarious moments, and ALL THE TROPES. Well, what’s not to love?

This is so incredibly true. That scene was very touching and very intense, I really like that there was a scene like that in the show. The way that he held onto Tang Yi and didn't let go really shows how deeply Shao Fei is able to emphathize with Tang Yi's pain.

The lift scene is also amazing, because of how quickly the turnabout was executed, and how the tension felt by the audience was then dissipated by the comedy. Particularly Shao Fei hauling the rail all the way back to the precinct.

I have so many thoughts bubbling up and I want to say a lot of different things. I will try to pace myself and not just brain dump here. Also, commenting alongside a rewatch with some order to the thoughts is probably a good plan. But let me just add one more favourite moment that I forgot about: when Tang Yi finally gives in to his concerns and does a difficult thing - he goes into the police station looking for Meng Shaofei after he’s been missing for a day. I really liked that moment.

YES! That too! It did a good job at setting the tone. You get intense staredowns, a kabebon, a dip, some handcuff action. It's the dimebag that entices you to come back for more. It was a very good taste of things to come.

Ah, yes! That entire sequence of him worrying so much about Meng Shao Fei that he was leaving him 50-ish voice messages on LINE was so sweet. And going into the police station to try to find him too...SO SWEET. The rewatch posts are going to be so great!

Ah yes that scene! Shao Fei has just made his way back from being abandoned by Tang Yi who drove off and left him in a warehouse with CWH's gang. (I mean, OK, he at least had the gun he took off Tang Yi, but in hindsight - was this really the best place to leave your cop boyfriend with emotions running high?) And me also thinking: .... did anybody remember to give a ride home to Hong Ye? .... anyway Shao Fei walks into this scene and decides his best course of action is to physically wrap his entire body around Tang Yi like a protective cocoon with his arms and legs and all his body parts. Tang Yi is certainly not touch-starved and is touchy-feely with everyone so it just seemed like MSF knew exactly what would work best, and did it.

Yes! I kept asking myself how the hell MSF got back home from the warehouse OK. He didn’t even have his phone (as we know) to call for a ride. I thought Dao Yi was likely called en route TO the warehouse (which MSF seems to say on arrival there) and he would take Hong Ye away. In fact I thought that would have all happened while the three of them were having their warehouse downstairs corridor heart to heart.

But yes, more importantly, MSF is like a limpet combined with an octopus here. Although TY isn’t touch-starved he is ALONE in so many ways and I see this as MSF manifesting physically what cannot be said because of the emotional fraught state TY is in. I want to dissect this scene more later because there’s an interesting moment as things get a bit sexual (at least with intent) where I’m not quite sure if there’s an issue of MSF being pushed too far too fast. Anyway, I’m really interested in the development of sexual intimacy between these two, which I’d love to see explored. More thoughts for other posts . . .

That is definitely a fic I want to write, and I wanted to write it as I was watching that scene. I don't know if I was writing yet when I saw it, but I def wasn't writing in this fandom (since that just started literally yesterday). It's absolutely happening now, though.

This moment was part of the reason why I thought they hadn’t really gone very far physically together yet. Although there’s another interpretation for MSF’s apparent unease - around the meaning of any sexual intent from TY at this exact point.

Uh, just a warning, I'm kinda known for being one to bring the knives to a party, sooooo... I promise the roleplaying fic I'm working on now is All Cute All The Time tho! This fandom is much less knife-centric than Guardian, which is the #1 reason I watched it when I did. =D

Hmmmm how to write Actually Scary Intense Jack during sex without sending Zhao Zi into catatonic shock (or screaming from the room)... something to think about. AFTER THIS. And, er... that. GOOD LORD WHO OPENED THE DOOR TO THE BUNNY FARM

I can actually see Zhao Zi having A Thing for Actually Scary Intense Jack during sex.

Remember, he was not afraid of Jack when Jack hauled him in for interrogation, even after Jack physically threatened him. And Zhao Zi is the one who pushes Jack up against the wall during their third kiss after Zhao Zi accepts Jack as a member of his family.

I'd like to think that Zhao Zi might get turned on by Jack being a little dangerous. I think it's totally doable and believable.

It's possible CWH has someone take MSF home - since - he did just keep him from getting shot, and all :D And then they are relaxed enough to have that tea shop heart to heart later.

Is it out of the realm of possibility that MSF somehow managed to get a hold of a taxi (or someone with initiative on CHW's side called one)?

He could have Uber'd, lol. I suppose it would have been tricky for a CWH gang car to just drive on up to TY's house and drop off Shao Fei at the door.

Hong Ye would have given him a ride but she would have shoved past him to get to Tang Yi if they'd come home together so I don't buy that option.
