YESSSS WE MEET ANDY!!!! (...he is my not-so-secret favorite and i want a sequel that's alllllll about him.)
okay, thoughts in chronological order:
In a fairly odd sequence, Meng Shao Fei imagines trying to get past them by throwing pebbles at them from makeshift catapults, or by stripping down to their pants and flagging down a car. - this is such a hilarious feverishly imagined bit, and it endears me to MSF all the more because he is SUCH a failboat. i mean look at his COMPLETELY OBLIVIOUS BRAIN:
Tang Yi turning up with a mysterious dude with whom he spent the night on the mountain is probably the best thing to happen to Dr Jiang all year - ahahahaha can you imagine the gossip? I LOVE IT!
Zhao Zi and Jack chat as Zhao Zi eats ALL THE THINGS and Jack is so clearly and immediately charmed by him - i feel like jack doesn't get surprised or confused by people very often, and yet ZZ is weird and unpredictable and super cute, and really, how is a gangster to resist?!
Meng Shao Fei endears himself to Tang Yi by returning the lost Lighter of Significance - okay, i agree 100% that the captain is HILARIOUS, but in this scene there's a moment where li zhi de hears tang yi say "thank you" and he reacts WITH HIS EARS - they literally go up half an inch - and it cracks me up SO HARD. it's too bad the character is so dark; the actor definitely has some comedic chops.
ALSO (and i may be alone in my obsession with how characters smell, but... listen, it's a thing?!) i gotta take back my guess that tang yi wears tom ford. upon a closer look in this episode, he's got BVLGARI's Man In Black in a prominent place among his toiletries (i couldn't identify the other, smaller bottles). the internet describes it as a cologne with "notes of spicy rum, rich tuberose and leather with a lingering intense black amber" and the official site dedicates it to "tremendously seductive men"...
ANYWAY.
Meng Shao Fei is variously an awkward turtle and a total spicy food + coke reprobate, and you can see Tang Yi being like, oh no, I'm falling for this guy? - LOL THIS TRUTH. plus, i think you're very right about how his display of hedonism re: food is completely unintentionally seductive. he does make some rather suggestive noises during that meal...
Meng Shao Fei shows up at the suit shop to tell Tang Yi he believes it was Chen Wen Hao who kidnapped them, and apparently I now have a thing for Tang Yi very drily calling him Officer Meng, oh no. - heeeee, i am right there with you :D i also like the new level of familiarity they have in this scene, yet both are quite aware of the dangerous secrets still between them, but there's a new sense of care in their interaction. tang yi doesn't say much, but the way his eyes subtly react to some of MSF's words... SIGH. oh, this ship!
and then... the stakeout at andy's bar! YAY!
(i love that ZZ's drunk dancing is still so much better than MSF's attempt)
FROG SHIRT OMG. it's pretty incredible on its own, but as contrast to what andy (the sudden rival) is wearing, it is OUT OF THIS WORLD hilarious.
Watching the scene this time I got hit with a lot of feelings about the positivity of the show's depiction of different ways of presenting as queer, and how well this is demonstrated by Andy and Tang Yi's close friendship and obvious huge affection for each other. Also, I think in order for a character to be likeable, you have to also like their friends and how they act towards them, and this is another thing Trapped does very well. - so much yes to all of this! i adore this friendship, how happy and smiley and comfortable tang yi is around andy, how andy's got his hands all over him in a completely casual way (altho it doesn't seem so to MSF), how much history they obviously share and how much trust exists between them.
also, i love that tang yi is by then fully aware 1) that he's into this ridiculous, relentless, loyal to a fault, intense, adorable cop; and 2) that said cop is totally attracted to him as well but doesn't seem to know it. so tang yi NUDGES HIM A LITTLE by making out with andy, and MSF suddenly gets hit with such jealousy that he nearly starts a fight and ruins the entire stakeout, and it's AMAZING <3333
(i will never not LOL over MSF resolutely embracing his female coworker, in the least heterosexual move i've seen on tv in a loooooooong time lolololol)
