The Taiwanese themselves seem to use a mix of Pinyin and Wade Giles and Tongyong nowadays, and the subbers themselves seem not to be able to decide between the romanization schemes either (I've seen Viki use both Xing Tian and Hsien Tien).
I agree that it's best to respect Taiwan's independent identity from the Mainland, but even that isn't a non-controversial opinion in Taiwan itself.
If the fans are used to watching subs that romanize his name as Jiang and not Chiang, or Zhao Zi instead of Jhao Zih (Tongyong) or Chao Tzu (Wade Giles), it's just going to be unpractical for the white folks to learn another system, you get my drift?
If you want to use Wade Giles or Tongyong, nobody here is going to stop you, but don't ask other fans to use your pinyin scheme because one is more right or wrong, in your opinion.
If you want to discuss the politics and practicalities of romanization somewhere else, I am game, but I don't want to shame fans here for using Pinyin, which has, incidentally, been adopted officially by Taiwan for 11 years.
