Welcome to the HIStory3: Trapped 圈套 Community on Dreamwidth
Even the though the fandom is spread around on various social media platforms, I think there are enough people on Dreamwidth who have seen the show to merit a separate community to celebrate our favorite disaster gangsters and their disaster cop boyfriends.
This is a comm for discussing and sharing the love of Trapped 圈套 and its related content, including:
• All types of discussion, discourse, and squee
• Actor news and spam (RPS and speculation is acceptable)
• Fan works (fanfiction, podfic, art, icons, vids, etc.), including your own work, challenges, recs and fanwork finding, beta requests
• Episode recaps

it felt like a made-for-Logo-TV-movie
It totally does, doesn't it? The budget wasn't great, but they made it work for what they had. There were actual locations and stuff, and the costumes were decent...except for the bits where I was confused why Tang Yi was wearing a turtle neck underneath his button-down shirt. (WHY?)
Also, the plot left something to be desired, but let's be real, we weren't watching for that. XD
"enemies to lovers" is my all-time number one trope,
One of my favorite things about Trapped is that it's clear that Shao Fei and Tang Yi have been enemies for a loooooong time. The whole Shao Fei being sued and having pursued Tang Yi for four years thing? LOVE IT. I am always dying for pre-canon fanfic of the two of them, I can just imagine them butting heads and it is so delightful knowing what follows later.
and the show consists of not one but TWO couples who fit this category
One of the things I am curious about is how much Jack and Zhao Zi knew of each other prior to the first episode. We know that Jack is relatively new to Xin Tian Meng (he's only been there a year), but Zhao Zi already seems to know of him (I'm sure Shao Fei has been spying on the syndicate and keeps a file, and Zhao Zi has picked it up from his rantings and ravings) by the time Interpol haul him away...hrrrmm.
The birthday cake thing is so sweet, and covers such a huge range of emotion. I love that Shao Fei baked him the cake himself. It's also the first kiss that Jake and Chris filmed together, which somehow makes it extra cute.
but i love it when a cool and aloof character lays their cards out in such a vulnerable way.
I'm gonna try not to wax eloquent about Jack for hours here, but one of the things I love most about his character is actually how emotionally vulnerable he is willing to be with Zhao Zi. From the very first moment that he goes, "You like me, don't you?" and ZZ's response is to literally run away. And Jack keeps going back, and even says that if ZZ rejects him his heart will break.
I LOVE dangerous characters being SOFT. Gyaaaaah.

My headcanon is that the incident during the gang arrests in Ep 1 is really one of the first times that MSF and TY interact in person, alone, outside of a structured police interview setting, court setting, or even arrest - that MSF has been watching and tailing and investigating TY forever through official channels (and not always with a clear basis, hence the lawsuits) but is getting more and more frustrated and reckless at his own lack of progress, which makes him careless enough to run in to an armed gang standoff without a warrant and then run out after TY alone leaving the rest of his team behind to arrest all the gangs. That their tension with each other in those early scenes is part and parcel of it not being a common interaction for them yet. That Tang Yi for the previous year allowing himself to develop a regular routine for MSF to follow (as mentioned outside the suit shop in Ep 1) so he could start using the police to catch his own enemies (as deduced by MSF in Ep 1) was a stroke of genius finally brought about by Tang Yi's grief & anger starting to abate enough after 3 years that he could think more rationally through year 4. And also, a strategy entirely possibly proposed or encouraged by Jack, who joined the gang at about the same time if I'm not mistaken (a year before canon starts? IDK where I got that. It might be fanon and I might be wrong). Maybe I just need to write some pre-canon stuff and get it out of my head lol

And I kind of hope that isn't accurate? I like the idea that they're those two mutual friends of Person A and they just can't stand each other but recongize it's just a personality conflict not a disagreement of morals or something. So they still complain at length to a fourth friend about each other, knowing full well that Fourth Friend is getting the dirt from both sides and not caring because hearing it all would drive Person A up a wall or hurt their feelings AND I WANT TO BE THAT FOURTH FRIEND OKAY
I feel like I just wrote a self-insert fic there and I should probably go back to the sexy times I just left off writing to respond to this comment XD

Nope, they are not together, they have different boyfriends!
When TY and MSF have dinner together after nightclub stakeout, TY show MSF a picture of Andy and his boyfriend, and the person is not Jiang Jin Tang (Dr. Sass).
During the final episode, TY and Jin Tang are chatting, and it's revealed that somebody might be trying to steal Jin Tang's boyfriend, who is in Mali.

And it's canon that Jack joined Xin Tian Meng a year ago from the start of the series. If I recall correctly, it's mentioned offhand by Ah-De, in some protest about Jack still being new?

It's also the first kiss that Jake and Chris filmed together, which somehow makes it extra cute. - i think i knew this, but i totally forgot until you mentioned it? and if i remember correctly, they were also kind of excited to be eating sweets FOR WORK. awwww <3

And Jack keeps going back, and even says that if ZZ rejects him his heart will break. - you know, as much as i adore jack's openness with zz in retrospect, when i watched back in the spring i was... pretty weary. as in, i was already shipping them, but it also felt like jack might be just courting someone who could prove to be useful next time he's in trouble or whatever. he was SUCH a dark horse that i couldn't take for granted any of the "work" he put in with zz, because i couldn't be sure how it would turn out for the two of them? (esp. since it is very strongly suggested that he at least knew about, or even had performed the assassination of... the gangster dude whose name i can't remember, but his death made cwh return to taiwan). so jack came across as a piece of superhot, fascinating, and potentially very bad news, and i kept hoping that maybe, even if he's being charming to a naive young cop for the wrong reasons and setting a safety net for himself in case things go south in cambodia, that he might end up falling for him anyway?
AND THEN jack shows up with a suitcase and has literally given up his past life for zz, and WOW, did that action speak louder than words. it made quite an impact, lemme tell you!

I'd like to think he might have started off thinking that being on Zhao Zi's friend would be useful in the future, but it's clear from the first time he goes to Zhao Zi's house and exchanges LINE contact info with him that he's actually fallen in love with Zhao Zi. It might have taken a bit longer after that for it to truly sink in just how badly he had it.
AND THEN jack shows up with a suitcase and has literally given up his past life for zz, and WOW, did that action speak louder than words
OMG, right? He gave up all the thrill and money from a successful mercenary career to be with Zhao Zi and take care of him. 😭😭😭 This show was so good to us.
