Welcome to the HIStory3: Trapped 圈套 Community on Dreamwidth

Even the though the fandom is spread around on various social media platforms, I think there are enough people on Dreamwidth who have seen the show to merit a separate community to celebrate our favorite disaster gangsters and their disaster cop boyfriends.

This is a comm for discussing and sharing the love of Trapped 圈套 and its related content, including:
• All types of discussion, discourse, and squee
• Actor news and spam (RPS and speculation is acceptable)
• Fan works (fanfiction, podfic, art, icons, vids, etc.), including your own work, challenges, recs and fanwork finding, beta requests
• Episode recaps

To start things off, let's introduce ourselves, tell each other how we came into the fandom, and what our favorite things about Trapped 圈套 are.

Hong Ye to me always read as a bundle of anxiety wrapped in a shell of projected self-confidence and strength, hiding behind the illusion of being completely competent and in control at all times, which - if she was a tiny girl child living homeless on the street and then picked up and taken into a gang family with literally not a single other female character in sight, strong, nurturing, healthy, unhealthy, or otherwise - one could see how that might develop. She's educated and smart enough to be running the business with efficiency but also ruthless enough (survival mechanism? maybe? literally?) to try to protect Tang Yi from what she sees as a threat but making bad choices about how to do that. I look forward to the eventual Hong Ye character discussion post and thread :D

Ah yes that scene! Shao Fei has just made his way back from being abandoned by Tang Yi who drove off and left him in a warehouse with CWH's gang. (I mean, OK, he at least had the gun he took off Tang Yi, but in hindsight - was this really the best place to leave your cop boyfriend with emotions running high?) And me also thinking: .... did anybody remember to give a ride home to Hong Ye? .... anyway Shao Fei walks into this scene and decides his best course of action is to physically wrap his entire body around Tang Yi like a protective cocoon with his arms and legs and all his body parts. Tang Yi is certainly not touch-starved and is touchy-feely with everyone so it just seemed like MSF knew exactly what would work best, and did it.

I am always dying for pre-canon fanfic of the two of them, I can just imagine them butting heads and it is so delightful knowing what follows later.

My headcanon is that the incident during the gang arrests in Ep 1 is really one of the first times that MSF and TY interact in person, alone, outside of a structured police interview setting, court setting, or even arrest - that MSF has been watching and tailing and investigating TY forever through official channels (and not always with a clear basis, hence the lawsuits) but is getting more and more frustrated and reckless at his own lack of progress, which makes him careless enough to run in to an armed gang standoff without a warrant and then run out after TY alone leaving the rest of his team behind to arrest all the gangs. That their tension with each other in those early scenes is part and parcel of it not being a common interaction for them yet. That Tang Yi for the previous year allowing himself to develop a regular routine for MSF to follow (as mentioned outside the suit shop in Ep 1) so he could start using the police to catch his own enemies (as deduced by MSF in Ep 1) was a stroke of genius finally brought about by Tang Yi's grief & anger starting to abate enough after 3 years that he could think more rationally through year 4. And also, a strategy entirely possibly proposed or encouraged by Jack, who joined the gang at about the same time if I'm not mistaken (a year before canon starts? IDK where I got that. It might be fanon and I might be wrong). Maybe I just need to write some pre-canon stuff and get it out of my head lol

I did mean that, but it’s been pointed out that this might already have happened on the birthday evening. The timeline is a little fuzzy. I really must watch again and get things in order.

Now that all makes a lot of sense. I’m wading in on scant first impressions here. I should keep a bit quiet until I’ve gathered my thoughts and watched again. That said, I do find that it’s in discussion with others that I form my best opinions! Thank you.

Yes! I kept asking myself how the hell MSF got back home from the warehouse OK. He didn’t even have his phone (as we know) to call for a ride. I thought Dao Yi was likely called en route TO the warehouse (which MSF seems to say on arrival there) and he would take Hong Ye away. In fact I thought that would have all happened while the three of them were having their warehouse downstairs corridor heart to heart.

But yes, more importantly, MSF is like a limpet combined with an octopus here. Although TY isn’t touch-starved he is ALONE in so many ways and I see this as MSF manifesting physically what cannot be said because of the emotional fraught state TY is in. I want to dissect this scene more later because there’s an interesting moment as things get a bit sexual (at least with intent) where I’m not quite sure if there’s an issue of MSF being pushed too far too fast. Anyway, I’m really interested in the development of sexual intimacy between these two, which I’d love to see explored. More thoughts for other posts . . .

That is definitely a fic I want to write, and I wanted to write it as I was watching that scene. I don't know if I was writing yet when I saw it, but I def wasn't writing in this fandom (since that just started literally yesterday). It's absolutely happening now, though.

This moment was part of the reason why I thought they hadn’t really gone very far physically together yet. Although there’s another interpretation for MSF’s apparent unease - around the meaning of any sexual intent from TY at this exact point.

Uh, just a warning, I'm kinda known for being one to bring the knives to a party, sooooo... I promise the roleplaying fic I'm working on now is All Cute All The Time tho! This fandom is much less knife-centric than Guardian, which is the #1 reason I watched it when I did. =D

It's possible CWH has someone take MSF home - since - he did just keep him from getting shot, and all :D And then they are relaxed enough to have that tea shop heart to heart later.

Of course! Duly noted. I’m good with whatever. Just happy I get to appreciate the creations of generous writers. (I wanted some fun after a lot of Guardian angst, but too much fluff gets sickly sweet.)

The possibility of them having sex on the night of Tang Yi's birthday is pure speculation on my part. The scene ends with them making out, and there's no specific evidence that they might have done more than that, but I'm pointing out that it is possible.

That would be so great! I have been wanting to delve more into her character. Think the audience is supposed to know that she's very complex, but with just 10 episodes, we don't really get to really explore her boundaries or what makes her tick. Can't wait for your post! <3333

The lift scene is also great because it appears early on, so you really get a great sense of what joys are to come.

YES! That too! It did a good job at setting the tone. You get intense staredowns, a kabebon, a dip, some handcuff action. It's the dimebag that entices you to come back for more. It was a very good taste of things to come.

when Tang Yi finally gives in to his concerns and does a difficult thing - he goes into the police station looking for Meng Shaofei

Ah, yes! That entire sequence of him worrying so much about Meng Shao Fei that he was leaving him 50-ish voice messages on LINE was so sweet. And going into the police station to try to find him too...SO SWEET. The rewatch posts are going to be so great!
